Oaks will be dropping their acorns in October and November. Each part of the tree has medicinal gifts for us, and the acorns every year are given for food. If you are interested in learning how to prepare acorns from start to finish, please contact me. If there is interest, we will do a six-week class. Acorns are very nutritious and versatile, and they can be incorporated into many different recipes.

Finding time every day for your yoga practice becomes easy when you have a regular time and place for it. Fall is often a time for new beginnings or a renewed commitment. Getting into a yoga routine can give you the experience of the benefits of what you are looking for from yoga.

Prickly Pear Cactus around the county is now offering its delicious and unusual fruit. If you would like to harvest them yourself, be sure to wear long sleeves and pants, and gloves. Once you’ve harvested the fruit, you can roll them on the ground to help remove the spines, and then hold them with tongs over a flame to thoroughly burn off the rest of the spines. However, an easier route is to buy them already despined at your local Mexican store. Next, you can cut open the fruit and scoop out the interior, and juice the pulp. Be sure to strain the juice to remove the seeds and any possible very tiny thorns (glochids). Once your juice is ready, you can use it in many ways. Here’s some suggestions:

Smoothie
Salad Dressing
Sauce
Sorbet or Popsicles
